The Imo State Police Command has announced a successful two-month operation against crime, resulting in the apprehension of 435 suspects and the recovery of 552 illegal rounds of ammunition.

435 arrested suspects were apprehended for different offences, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, fraud, cultism, theft, and possession of stolen property.

It was gathered that 552 live rounds of ammunition and 48 firearms were seized during intelligence-driven operations and raids on suspected criminal hideouts, while 13 kidnapped individuals were safely recovered. Also, about 10 stolen vehicles were retrieved.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, while speaking to newsmen in Owerri, credited the positive results to proactive operational strategies and security measures. These efforts, according to him, fostered community participation in fighting crime, leading to an overall improvement in public safety.

He said, “One notable accomplishment involved the arrest of a kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction and murder of retired Major General Richard Duru. The suspects confessed to the crime and disclosed their affiliation with a banned group. Investigations are ongoing before their court appearance,” he added.
