The House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Malaria has taken a decisive step in investigating the allocation and impact of the N62 billion Federal Government intervention funds designated for the HIV/AIDS control program and other donor funds managed by Global Funds during the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Expressing disappointment over the absence of the national coordinators of the National Malaria Control Programme and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programmes during a recent fact-finding mission, the Committee affirmed its commitment to scrutinizing the utilization and outcomes of the substantial funds allocated.

Chairman Amobi Ogah conveyed optimism regarding the fight against these diseases, citing achievements by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) led by Director-General Dr. Aliyu Gambo, as observed during the Committee's visit to the agency.

While expressing concern about the data and statistics on HIV/AIDS prevalence across states, the Committee urged NACA to enhance awareness, especially in rural communities. Despite pledging support for NACA programs, the Committee expressed displeasure over the absence of the Coordinators of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme and the National Malaria Control Programme during the scheduled visit.

Chairman Ogah noted that the heads of government agencies and institutions, rather than politicians, pose significant challenges to the nation.
