Residents of Omole Estate Phase II claim that guards for the estate were physically assaulted by members of the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

According to the locals, the guards resisted and were then attacked by the officials.

Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, Prince Adewunmi Stephen, the estate's chief security officer, stated that the LASBAC representatives were denied entry because they arrived in a private vehicle and did not present identification credentials to support their claims.

He stated that it was against the estate's policy for government employees to arrive without a vehicle bearing the logo or license plate number of the Lagos State Government.

Three of Adewunmi's guys were hurt by the officials during the altercation, he added.

He said, “Some persons came and claimed they are Lagos State workers. Normally, once we see Lagos State-branded vehicles or plate numbers, we give them access. But in their case, they did not come with any of this. They did not show us their ID cards and claimed they must have access to the estate. I spoke with them on phone and told them there is a rule here. But I told them to leave and that we do not want problems in the estate. They parked and made calls. After 30 minutes, they came with policemen. They assaulted three of my men.”

Abiodun Oke, the estate's chairman of the security advisory group, also claimed that many uniforms intended for estate security were damaged and that the LASBAC officers seized a Walkie-talkie and four mobile phones that belonged to the security operatives.

He said, “This is uncalled for. The situation caused panic, people felt it was an armed robber that attacked the estate. At the end of the day when they left, we took stock and discovered that our Walkie-talkie and four mobile phones had been taken away and several uniforms meant for our security were torn.”

Adetayo Asagba, the LASBCA spokesman, stated that she had not yet received a briefing on the incident.

She promised to tell our correspondent after she has been informed.
