According to reports by journalists, about four persons were killed in Ifite-Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, when unknown gunmen attacked the area, firing shots into the air.

The attack, which happened late on Wednesday, caused fear in the community, forcing the people to flee to their homes and traders to close their shops immediately.

Witnesses noted that the criminals attacked many popular locations, including Ukwu Aki Bus Stop, Book Foundation Junction, the Bamboo area, “B” Bus Stop, and Commissioners’ Quarters.

Our reporter, who went to the area on Thursday, noted that during the attack, the manager of a popular hotel (name withheld) was kidnapped. His whereabouts remain unknown.

A resident, who identified himself as Chibuike, said,

“No fewer than three people were killed at Ifite last night—one at ‘B’ Bus Stop and another at Book Foundation Junction.

“They also attacked a hotel in Commissioners’ Quarters, abducted three persons, and left with their cars. This morning, one person was shot dead at the Ukwu Aki axis.

''This December is becoming very bloody. May God have mercy. Everyone should be careful about their movements.”

Some staff of the hotel confirmed the incident but refused to comment further, noting they were not allowed to speak.

When contacted, the state police public relations officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said, “Thank you for this information, but if you know the relatives of these victims, let them come forward, please.”
