The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of its officers by hoodlums who attacked the Ishieke junction police checkpoint at about 7:15 a.m yesterday.
According to a statement signed by DSP Joshua Ukandu, the police public relations officer, the hoodlums drove an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna.
One of the officers was critically wounded and a patrol vehicle was set on fire, Ukandu stated that the hoodlums fired intermittent shots at the officers, who fought back and were able to repel them.
He stated that as soon as the commissioner of police received the information, police officers were sent to the location and are currently pursuing the hoodlum.
Meanwhile, everything has returned to normal in the neighborhood.
Using this platform, the CP is urging well-meaning citizens of the state to provide the command with information that will help catch the runaway criminals, stressing that the command is still steadfast in its pursuit of both the protection of people and property and the fight against crime and criminality.
Recall that three weeks ago, at approximately five in the morning, two civilians and four police officers were fatally shot by as-yet-unidentified gunmen at a hilltop stop and search/pin-down location on Nwofe Road, on the outskirts of Abakaliki.
Ukandu claimed that armed thugs who were allegedly part of the banned IPOB/ESN attacked the cops and intermittently fired shots at the agents.
