The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has officially authorised the appointment of new leaders to head major health sector parastatals in the state.
The recent appointments designate Dr Ezeaka Augustine Uwaeme as the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA); Dr Obianuji Chinelo Okoye has been named the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency; additionally, Dr Hillary Nkem Okeke will serve as the Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency.
It was gathered that Dr Uwaeme is a seasoned medical practitioner with over 22 years of experience in medicine and surgery, with extensive clinical and management expertise.
His professional training spans several prestigious global institutions, including Thomas Jefferson University, the Jefferson Ultrasound Radiology and Education Institute in India, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and the University of Ilorin.
Dr Okoye is a veteran physician with strong administrative and training competencies, as well as broad clinical experience across hospitals and the public health sector. With over 2 decades of integrated practice, she is an alumna of Ebonyi State University, where she earned her MBBS degree. Dr Okoye also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and a Diploma in Family Medicine from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. She has also participated in several professional conferences where she presented papers.
The third appointee, Dr Okeke, is an award-winning and multi-skilled medical expert, as well as a lecturer known for his extensive research contributions. His professional focus centres on epidemiology, community and social care, and global health management. A member of various professional organisations, he earned his MBBS degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and holds a Master’s degree in Public Health.
The appointments are part of the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and enhancing the institutional capacity across Anambra’s health sector.
