Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, gave his approval on Thursday for Chief Oyebode Aderonke Mary to become the new Iyaloja General of Osun State.
Oyebode will succeed Chief Awawu Asindemade as the Iyaloja General—the female head of all state traders—under the leadership of former governor Rauf Aregbesola.
A statement by Olawale Rasheed, the representative to Osun Governor, depicted the new Iyaloja General as "areas of strength for finance managers" in Osun state.
According to the governor, Oyebode has made a significant contribution to the expansion and development of commerce.
The statement reads further, "We approve her appointment with all sense of responsibility and confidence in her ability to pilot the affairs of women in commerce for the collective prosperity of Osun state."
However, Asindemade stated that she could not be removed from the group because it was a Non-Governmental Organization that she founded in response to the government's decision to remove her.
"They only removed themselves, not me," she stated. I'm not annoyed by that turn of events, since they can't prevent me from being the Iyaloja General. Instead, the person chosen to be the new Iyaloja General represents the PDP.
"I'm as yet the Iyaloja General in Osun State, while the new nominee is PDP's Iyaloja General. It is no issue on the off chance that the public authority chooses not to relate with us, we have an administration at the government level.
My tenure as Iyaloja General is not predetermined. Iyaloja General cannot be removed by the government. I founded our group, which is a non-governmental organization,” she emphasized.
