In a statement released shortly after the 29th Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, Commissioner for Water Resources Mijinyawa Yahaya said that this contract would improve water supply in the metropolis.
Yahaya said, “Council approved the contract for the operation and maintenance of Gombe Regional Water Supply scheme for the year 2022 to CGC Nigeria at the sum of 1,174,726,198.27 .
“Council approved the contract award for the operation and maintenance of Gombe Regional Water Supply scheme for the year 2023 at the sum of 1,233,462,508.18” .
The Council also ratified the upgrading of a junction on the Gombe/Potiskum highway with a duration of four months for an amount of N1.7 billion, said Commissioner for Works and Transportation Abubakar Bappah.
“Council approved the upgrading of the road taking off at the junction of Gombe-Potiskum federal highway at the cost of 1,731,134,312.50 with a completion period of 4 months.”
“The council approved an upward review of compensation rates, investment on properties affected by road construction projects in Gombe state by 100 per cent,” Bappah added.
Although Council approved the construction of 550 housing units at a cost of 4,745 million naira, Commissioner for Housing Idris Kwami also noted that “550 housing units were approved at N4.7bn".
