FG Declares Tuesday, October 1 Public Holiday

To commemorate Nigeria's 64th independence anniversary.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Tuesday, October 1st, will be a holiday to celebrate the country's 64th anniversary of independence. 

This was disclosed in a press release on Saturday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The minister congratulated Nigerians at home and in diaspora on the occasion.

The minister also commended the patient and industrious Nigerian men and women, emphasising that their sacrifices will not be in vain.

“Positioning himself with the theme for the celebration, the Minister stressed the need for Nigerians to think about the labour of our heroes' past and be inspired for the responsibility ahead, understanding that a Nigeria of our dreams can only be built when we work together. 

“While wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day Anniversary, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Tunji-Ojo, advised the citizens to persevere to be steadfast in nation-building," says the statement.
