The federal government has started selling subsidised milled rice to help ease Nigeria's food shortage.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, began the sales in Abuja on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

It was gathered that the rice will be available for purchase at a price of ₦40,000 per bag, and each person will be restricted to buying only one bag.

The public servants were the intended recipients of the launch that took place on Thursday.

Recall that the Federal Government declared in July 2024 that essential food items like rice would be sold at a discounted price of ₦40,000 per 50-kg bag.

In response to this statement, the Human Resources Management Department of the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs requested that civil servants sign up for the sale of the food item using their Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.
