These motorcycles had been seized during a comprehensive operation that kicked off at the Carwash Bus Stop in Lugbe and extended through Gosa, Bill Clinton Drive, Trademore Estate, Lugbe Junction, and Kubwa.

This crackdown follows a similar operation at the end of August, where more than 400 motorcycles met a similar fate due to their involvement in the same unlawful activities.

Speaking to reporters during the operation, Mr. Obokutom Nyah, Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat of FCTA, said that this decision to destroy the motorcycles was fully in accordance with the law.

Nyah sternly warned commercial motorcyclists to confine their operations to designated areas, stay away from the city center, and cease posing a security threat within the city limits.

He elaborated that there are specific zones earmarked for different types of vehicles, with commercial motorcycles only permitted to operate in suburban regions.

"So, we urge the operators to adhere to these boundaries, because crossing that line will result in severe legal consequences," he cautioned.

Additionally, Mr. Abdulateef Bello, Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services, expressed his concern over the excessive number of motorcycles operating within the city.

Bello disclosed that the task force was considering extending their operations into the nighttime hours and currently impounds between 200 to 400 motorcycles on a weekly basis.

He also noted that the task force was contemplating the arrest of residents who patronize motorcycles, as part of measures to enhance enforcement.

Bello advised residents to refrain from utilizing motorcycles and encouraged them to consider walking short distances whenever possible for their own safety.
