The task force successfully arrested the individual responsible for manufacturing and distributing fake drugs at the organization's office located in the cultural area of Ondo Road, Akure, the capital of the state, following a tip-off.
According to Mrs. Folukemi Aladenola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, this fraudulent drugs organization was found in possession of concoctions they claimed could cure a wide range of ailments, posing significant risks to people's health. Aladenola also revealed that the organization was operating in 13 other states in Nigeria.
"The team received information that the organization had been in the town since June, offering treatments for various ailments at a price, with claims of being able to treat conditions such as cancer, low sperm count, diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis, and infertility, all while asserting registration with NAFDAC," Aladenola stated.
She emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Health to safeguarding the health interests of the state's residents and highlighted the government's efforts to ensure that people have easy access to healthcare by eliminating registration fees in all government healthcare facilities to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
"The government's gesture should encourage our people to utilize government healthcare facilities. Surprisingly, people still seek the services of these quacks, paying prices ranging from N5000 to N10,000," Aladenola remarked.
"Instead of patronizing quacks, individuals can access quality drugs at government facilities across the state. The days of drug shortages are over, and our facilities are now well-stocked with affordable medications. Facilities have been instructed to source their drugs through this agency. If you encounter drug shortages in these facilities, you can report this issue."
Aladenola urged the people of the state to seek healthcare services exclusively from qualified professionals and accredited government and private facilities. She also stressed that the fraudulent organization would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for sanctions.
Furthermore, she issued a stern warning to all counterfeit drug dealers in the state, declaring that they would be held accountable for their actions.
