The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has launched a new police team known as Distress Rapid Squad, DRS, to patrol the streets of Enugu, aiming to rapidly respond to security issues in the state.

Governor Mbah affirms that, “this is this part of the proactive measures of his administration to ensure security of lives and properties, and the total wellbeing of Enugu Indigenes.

“It is my priority to ensure that Enugu State is safe to enable exponential economic growth,” Mbah said.

The Governor recognizes that security is vital for the state to flourish economically.

Meanwhile, Distress Rapid Squad has been created to replace the inactive Police Urban Patrol that has been dormant for a considerable period. Governor Mbah required an active force that could patrol all areas of Enugu to root out dangerous criminals and combat their activities.

Mbah has provided numerous vehicles for the squad to ensure a smooth service delivery and emergency response by the team.

The DRS will report to the Chief Security Officer at the Government House in Enugu, which will streamline their response to security emergencies.
