The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, arrived at the Kaduna Federal High Court on Wednesday morning as the proceedings for his bail application continued.

At approximately 9:00 AM, El-Rufai was driven onto the court premises; he didn't exit from his vehicle until exactly 9:05 AM. His arrival immediately caught the eye of security personnel and a handful of observers within the vicinity.

The hearing resumed after Tuesday’s session reached a standstill, as the defence team's legal tactics introduced fresh twists to the case.

It was gathered that the earlier session was stalled after the defence filed a motion requesting the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, to step down from the case over alleged bias and a pending petition.

The motion, which challenged the court’s neutrality, marked a significant turn in the proceedings and triggered immediate reactions from the prosecution.

However, in a dramatic reversal, the defence later submitted a new application to retract its earlier request for the judge to step aside from the case.

The complexity of the case increased when the prosecution submitted a counter-affidavit against the bail application, leaving the defence with limited time to study and respond to the new filings.

In view of the developments, Justice Aikawa postponed the proceedings until Wednesday to proceed with the bail application hearing.

Security forces were strategically stationed within and around the court premises, restricting movement and closely monitoring activities.

Reporters, including a correspondent from The Lagoslocalnews were denied entry to the courtroom as security personnel enforced strict entry controls.

The conflicting applications sparked a heated series of legal exchanges between counsel to both parties, creating procedural delays that ultimately stalled the hearing of the bail application.
