An officer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been discovered dead in an undisclosed location in Lagos State. A video that emerged online on Monday depicted the body of the officer, who was not in uniform, surrounded by onlookers, including police personnel.

The officers present searched the deceased's belongings and confirmed his identity as an EFCC operative through an identification card found with him. A voice in the video stated, “He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him.”

Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, verified the incident and mentioned that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer's death is underway. He stated, “Yes, the man is our officer. His death is being investigated. The incident happened on Sunday.”

This incident follows a recent tragedy involving the agency; on January 15, another EFCC officer, Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu, was fatally shot by a suspected internet fraudster during a raid in Onitsha, Anambra State.
