Emefiele was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Lagos and flown to Abuja in a private jet.
According to Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, Emefiele is now in custody and under investigation. As part of the standard procedure, his travel document has been confiscated, and a search will be conducted at his office and residence for relevant documents and there are indications that other top directors of the CBN may also be invited or arrested for questioning.
The DSS is also considering revisiting the previous criminal charges against Emefiele, including allegations of terrorism financing and fraud.
Meanwhile, the DSS spokesperson was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
