The Director-General of WUEDA, Prince Godwin Ejinyere, confirmed this in Effurun on Christmas Day after driving around the city to observe some areas known for chaotic vehicular traffic.
The areas noted for notorious traffic congestion in the oil city are Jakpa, Airport, and Enerhen junctions; Udu Road to express junction in Ovwian; Effurun roundabout; Tankers’ Park and express junction by Refinery Bridge; and Ugbuwangue junction along NPA expressway.
Others include PTI junction; DSC roundabout; Ugbomro, Otokutu, and Mofor junctions along the DSC expressway; Okumagba Estate; Okere Market; Warri Main Market; and Igbudu Market by Hausa quarters. Also, DDPA, Ugborikoko, and Edjeba junctions along Airport Road; and Ekpan roundabout in Ekpan.
The WUEDA D-G mentioned that these areas have remained notorious for indiscriminate parking and loading of vehicles, especially tricycles, along the roads and at road junctions in the name of motor parks. He emphasized that they will be closed down to give the city a facelift in 2024.
Hon. Ejinyere also warned that abandoned broken-down vehicles on the streets and roads will be impounded by the appropriate government agencies working with WUEDA to bring sanity to the city.
He stated that owners of such vehicles would face sanctions through the aid of a task force and a mobile court.
