Inuwa Bwala, the Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area in Borno State, has said that over thirteen thousand unemployed graduates have been registered by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in his area.

This was announced yesterday to the pressmen in Hawul by NDE officials, who had been commending them for conducting the census in their area.

According to him, the number comprised graduates with Bachelor’s degree,  Higher National Diploma, HND, National Diploma, ND, and National Certificate of Education, NCE.

Bwala expressed concern about the growing number of unemployed youths and called for urgent measures to address this issue, stating: "A society with such a large population of unemployed people is only delaying the evil day."

He encouraged youths in the area to look for ways of becoming self-employed, instead of roaming the streets looking for government jobs after graduation.

The chairperson said that his council would write to the Borno government for employment opportunities for the graduates and volunteer teachers on stipends.

He also emphasized that Governor Zulum had recently ordered the employment of this category of unemployed youths in the education sector, and that Hawul has many qualified youths.
