The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has characterized the National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy as a comprehensive framework designed to enhance maritime governance in Nigeria.
Speaking during the second and final leg of the Executive Technical Validation Workshop in Abuja, Oyetola emphasized that this policy is pivotal for establishing the maritime sector as a significant contributor to national prosperity, aligning with Africa's Agenda 2063.
In a statement released by Muhammad Zakaria, the Head of Press & Public Relations at the ministry, Oyetola highlighted the recent series of validation workshops aimed at refining a robust framework that will serve as a blueprint for advancing Nigeria's maritime sector.
He noted the ministry's commitment to fostering collaboration among industry experts, academics, and researchers, which reflects its dedication to the growth and development of the sector.
Oyetola underscored the maritime domain's critical role in Nigeria's economic future, stressing the necessity of integrating marine and blue economy sectors with broader economic growth strategies.
He asserted that an inclusive maritime policy positions Nigeria as a leader in the global blue economy.
“This engagement aims to restore our priorities and solidify a framework for advancing the maritime sector over the next few years,” Oyetola stated, identifying a strong policy framework as essential for driving maritime development.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Oloruntola Olufemi, reiterated that the validation workshop was crucial for consolidating previous engagements and shaping a policy that addresses Nigeria's specific needs while promoting sustainable development.
