Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on Nigerians to exercise patience while the government devises palliative measures to alleviate the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

During an interaction with journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, the governor reassured the public that the National Economic Council's committee, of which he is a member, would make appropriate recommendations that would benefit everyone.

Among the proposed recommendations, Governor Mohammed highlighted the procurement of a significant number of mass transit buses for the Nigerian populace. He also mentioned that the committee would suggest adjustments to workers' salaries and the introduction of various intervention programs funded by the revenue generated from the subsidy removal.

"The committee's objective is to work in the best interest of all Nigerians," stated Governor Mohammed. He emphasized that the committee, led by Kebbi Governor Dr. Nasiru Idris, remains steadfast in recommending fair modalities for the equitable distribution of palliative measures to all affected sectors.

The governor affirmed that the distribution of palliatives would encompass all sectors impacted by the subsidy removal, regardless of political party affiliations. He assured the public that both opposition and ruling party governors recognized the federal government's decision as a positive step forward and pledged to keep the process free from political influence.

He also noted that the National Economic Council and representatives of organized labor acknowledged the advantages and challenges associated with the removal of the fuel subsidy.

“It has subjected Nigerians, especially the common citizens to hardship, hence, the move to alleviate their sufferings.

“Government and Organised Labour understood that the move has brought about benefits and challenges, that is why right steps are being taken in that direction,” the governor added.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to be patient, saying life will be meaningful when the federal government implements the NEC recommendations.
