Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency, has expressed regret for abusing a Bolt driver who came to deliver a package to him on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

In a press release titled ‘A Statement of Regret and Commitment to Justice’, Ikwechegh expressed remorse for his actions, which were captured in a video, widely circulated online, and admitted the behaviour as “inappropriate” for a public official.

He has dedicated himself to collaborating with the ongoing police probe and to tackling the situation through professional counselling.

Ikwechegh said, “As a public servant, I understand the responsibility placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people. My action fell short of the standards expected of me, and for that, I am really sorry.” He admitted the shame and harm caused to the driver, his constituents, and the nation.

Dedication to Positive Change:

Ikwechegh pledged to address the “root causes” through therapy and announced his participation in community programs aimed at promoting respect, empathy, and understanding.

A Call for Respect and Dignity:

In his closing remarks, he advised Nigerians to cultivate a culture of respect, tolerance, and dignity, emphasising that collective action can build a society where everyone is treated with fairness and compassion.
