The Anambra State Government, on Thursday, arrested a 40-year-old man, Anietie Tim, for raping a 14-year-old girl in Onitsha.

The apprehension came after the suspect had escaped from personnel of the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Children’s Welfare.

Tim, who is a native of Etinan in Akwa Ibom State, during questioning opined that he didn’t know the victim was a minor, noting that the girl was the one enticing him, and since he was a full-blooded man, he had to respond to her advances.

The suspect said: She was my girlfriend, and she was always lacking food as her family was starving her, so she always came to me.

The state commissioner for women affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, who interrogated the suspect in her office, instructed that he be transferred to the police.

Her words were: He will come into view before the Children, Sexual, and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka to answer for his crime.

The incident occurred in 2022, after which the suspect has been avoiding apprehension . He had, in different instances, intimated with the mother of his victim, asserting that she was untouchable.
