Senior Advocate of Nigeria and legal representative for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Femi Falana, clarified on Monday that the recent arrest of Joe Ajaero, NLC President, by the Department of State Services (DSS) is unrelated to a prior police invitation.

Ajaero had previously been invited by the police concerning allegations linked to a "threat to public peace," but this invitation was rescheduled.

Falana confirmed that he had been in contact with police authorities and emphasized that Ajaero's arrest was not connected to this invitation.

Ajaero was apprehended on Monday morning at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while preparing to board a flight to the United Kingdom for the Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference.

As at the time of filing this report, the DSS has not provided any official reason for his detention, raising concerns among labour groups and the public regarding the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
