The Kwara State Government announced on Tuesday night that approximately 97% of its 18,466 employees have received their November salaries and bonuses.

Dr. Hauwa Nuru, the state Commissioner for Finance, clarified that the remaining 4.5% of employees who have not been paid are those who failed to register with the Kwara State Resident Registration Agency (KWSRRA) as mandated since July 2024, or those facing other issues.

In a related development, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the state government to address the non-payment of November salaries for many local government workers.

NLC Secretary Isiah Elachochi-Eigege revealed that around 75% of these workers, including members of various unions such as the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, have yet to receive their payments.

The state government responded by emphasizing that 97% of teachers and employees under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have been compensated, with only a small percentage pending due to KWSRRA registration issues.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all legitimate workers receive their salaries promptly and urged those affected to validate their claims with KWSRRA and the Ministry of Finance.

The statement from the finance ministry also addressed concerns raised by the NLC regarding salary disbursement discrepancies, asserting that data provided to union representatives earlier confirmed the government's position.
