As news of the incident spread, many people have taken to social media platforms to share their worries, with some labeling elevators as potential death traps.

One Facebook user, Queen Eva expressed her unease saying, "When I was doing a job that allows me to enter people's houses, that's when I realized that elevators are death traps, especially here in Lagos."

In light of these anxieties, here are ten essential safety tips to ensure a safer elevator ride:

1. When waiting for the elevator, stand clear of the doors and allow space for exiting passengers.

2. Be cautious as you enter the elevator and indicate your desired floor using the elevator buttons.

3. Keep a safe distance from the doors and avoid placing clothes and belongings near the opening.

4. If the elevator has a handrail, use it for added stability, and pay attention to the floor indicators.

5. Avoid overcrowding the elevator. If it is full, patiently wait for the next one.

6. Upon reaching your floor, exit promptly and avoid blocking the doors.

7. In the event that the doors do not open when the elevator stops, press the Door Open button if available.

8. Never attempt to exit a stalled elevator without assistance from emergency responders as indicated in the elevator.

9. Help maintain elevator cleanliness for the safety and comfort of all users.

10. In case of an emergency, remain calm and patient while waiting for assistance.

By adhering to these safety guidelines, we can create a safer environment for everyone using elevators.
