Last month, John Williams Ntwali died after being struck by a speeding car while riding a motorcycle.

According to the officials, it was a traffic collision.

Rights organisations have demanded an impartial investigation into his death, calling it suspicious.

According to Human Rights Watch, Mr. Ntwali frequently received threats and abuse for his investigative work from media outlets that support the government.

Although the trial was closed to the public, several journalists were permitted to attend the verdict reading.
