The government now has more authority to address the acute electricity shortages that have gotten worse recently thanks to Cyril Ramaphosa's speech on Thursday.

He insisted that South Africa would have an energy network that was more effective.

Before his speech, the room was in a state of anarchy. The Economic Freedom Fighters briefly assaulted the podium before being ordered to leave.

Additionally, Mr. Ramaphosa stated that whistleblowers who exposed government corruption will soon have access to the witness protection programme.

But for many whose relatives were killed for exposing corruption in government, this offers little solace.

Mr. Ramaphosa increased the assistance cash, which is received by more than eight million unemployed South Africans, to combat the rising cost of living.
