A Sunday attack on their helicopter in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo resulted in the death of one South African peacekeeper for the UN and the injury of another.
The helicopter was attacked in the afternoon while its route to Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, where it was able to land, according to the UN mission in the nation, Monusco.
Another peacekeeper allegedly suffered injuries in the assault.
In a statement, the company said, "Monusco firmly condemns this heinous attack against an aeroplane displaying the United Nations logo."
The strike was also confirmed by the South African National Defense Force (SANDF).
"An Oryx helicopter came under fire in Goma, the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday February 5, 2023," it said in a statement.
"The SANDF is in the process of informing family members of the soldiers who were involved."
