Following Alieu Badara Joof's passing last week at the age of 66, a memorial service for him was held at the parliament of the Gambia.

He passed suddenly while receiving treatment in India for an unidentified disease.

Joof has only been Adama Barrow's vice-president for nine months.

Thousands of mourners, including the president, attended the funeral to pay their respects to a man characterized as "humble and frank."

''You cannot create an omelet without breaking the eggs'', Mr. Barrow quoted the late vice president as saying in memory of one of his contentious utterances. If you want, I'll speak the truth; let the president get me out. However, I'll speak it like it is, and as I have been doing so in the cabinet.
