The brother of former president Abdelaziz Bouteflika was given a 12-year prison term for corruption by an Algerian court.

The counsellor to his brother, Sad Bouteflika, was also fined about $60,000 (£50,000).

With him, other prominent businesspeople from Algeria were found guilty and sentenced to lengthy prison sentences.

Following a wave of pro-democracy demonstrations, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was accused of promoting corruption throughout his 20 years in office, was forced to step down as president in 2019. And in two years, he passed away.
