The Ogun State Government has provided reassurance to its residents regarding the continuity of treatment and support for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, despite the recent suspension of U.S. funding for public health initiatives.

Dr. Tomi Coker, the state Commissioner for Health, issued this statement following the announcement from the United States about a 90-day halt on funding, which affects various health programs, including those under USAID.

Dr. Coker emphasized that proactive measures have been implemented to ensure that healthcare services remain uninterrupted. She highlighted the commitment of both federal and state authorities to prevent any disruption in care for those affected by HIV/AIDS.

To address potential challenges stemming from the funding pause, the state government has ensured that HIV test kits are available at hospitals and primary healthcare centers, facilitating continued access to free testing for residents.

Moreover, treatment facilities across Ogun State will remain operational to support patients in collecting their medications and initiating antiretroviral therapy for newly diagnosed individuals. The commissioner confirmed that Early Infant Diagnosis tests would continue at designated m-PIMA laboratories located at key hospitals in the region.

Dr. Coker also assured that all eligible patients requiring viral load testing would have their samples collected and transported for necessary analysis. To maintain service delivery, existing mentor mothers will collaborate with government healthcare workers to ensure that HIV services are sustained, with the Ministry of Health overseeing operations across all antiretroviral therapy sites.

In her appeal to the public, Dr. Coker urged residents to remain calm and support government efforts in maintaining HIV/AIDS treatment services. She also called upon healthcare providers to integrate HIV treatment into broader health services within the state.
