The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has activated a National Cholera Multi-sectoral Emergency Operation Centre to coordinate the cholera outbreak response in the country.

As of June 24, 2024, about 1,528 suspected cases and 53 deaths have been recorded in 31 states and 101 Local Government Areas, with a fatality rate of 3.5%.

Lagos is the epicenter of the outbreak, having recorded the highest number of cases. The NCDC is collaborating with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency to secure cholera vaccines, but the demand outweighs the global availability. The Minister of Health has approached Gavi for assistance.

The activated Emergency Operation Centre will serve as the nerve center for supporting affected states and coordinating response efforts across the country. It will facilitate rapid communication, data analysis, decision-making, and ensure efficient deployment of resources.
