The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently undertook a major operation in Ibadan, resulting in the destruction of substandard products, including fake drugs and medical devices, valued at an estimated N43 billion.

This operation took place at the Moniya dump site in the Akinyele Local Government Area, with oversight from representatives of security agencies and the Oyo State government.

Among the destroyed items were various products such as aphrodisiacs, sex enhancement drugs, over-the-counter medications, and prescription-only drugs.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Christiana Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Shabba Mohammed, the Director of Investigation and Enforcement, emphasized that these products were voluntarily surrendered by compliant companies, non-governmental organizations, and trade unions.

Professor Adeyeye highlighted that over 30 different products were seized during this initiative. She noted that NAFDAC has been actively gathering intelligence regarding illegal warehousing, sale, and distribution of narcotics by pharmaceutical vendors across Lagos and other states.

Recent raids conducted by the agency's Investigation and Enforcement Directorate led to the confiscation of products worth over N700 million.

In addition to counterfeit pharmaceuticals, the operation also targeted contraband items such as unregistered soaps, tomato paste, and counterfeit beverages.
