The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has declared a state of readiness to address the potential spread of cholera disease in Lagos.

This comes in response to the recent deaths of five individuals and the hospitalization of numerous others displaying symptoms of the disease in the city.

In a statement issued on its official Twitter handle, @LASUTHIkeja, on Wednesday morning, the management of the state-owned health facility emphasized its preparedness to manage the possible outbreak. Precautionary measures have been put in place, and healthcare workers have been placed on high alert.

The statement reads, "This is to inform the general public that precautionary measures have been put in place by the management of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, concerning the cholera outbreak in Lagos."

It further notes that on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, scores of patients presented to various healthcare facilities across the state with symptoms consistent with cholera.

As a result, LASUTH, being a referral facility, has taken necessary steps to ensure it is equipped to handle a potential surge in cases.

The management has assured the public that good hygiene practices, the provision of clean water at all service points, and effective treatment of those presenting with gastroenteritis symptoms are among the measures being implemented.
