The Umbrella body in charge of musicians and their welfare in Ghana, MUSIGA, has asked Radio presenter, Kofi Okyere Darko and Veteran highlife musician, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley to put an end to their trade of words.

The two have been at loggerheads for the past two weeks as a result of assertions made by the creator of Ghanaian rap that the VGMA is to blame for the slow demise of the highlife genre in Ghana.

But on Thursday, April 13, MUSIGA requested a cease-fire from both parties in a press release that was signed by the acting president of the union, Mr. Bessa Simons.

The Union asserted that it thought the rival sides' shared interest in the genre necessitated that they exercise caution while debating the issue.

“As a Union, we believe that both parties are passionate about the growth, development, and preservation of highlife music,” a portion of the statement read, “MUSIGA also believes that schemes like the VGMA all have good intentions for the Ghanaian music industry in general, and highlife music in particular.”

The statement reaffirmed the need for peace and said that rather than fighting among ourselves, everyone should concentrate on how to advance the music business.
