"Fans Are The Ones Who Start This "Beef” - Rema

Fans Fuel "Beef" Among Nigerian Music Artists – Rema

Bernice Mensah

Rema, a Nigerian rapper and singer, has accused fans of fueling the endless rivalries and strife in the Afrobeats scene.

Despite ego conflicts, he claimed that African musicians had made every effort to unite, but their supporters keeps putting them against one another.

Rema was featured on a recent episode of Ebro, a morning show on Hot 97FM in New York, USA.

The singer of "Calm Down" claimed to be an introvert who dislikes confrontation.

He said, “I look for no one’s trouble. I just want to make good music. I’m an introvert, I stay indoors. I don’t cause trouble, I don’t want to fight.

“One thing about African music or Afrobeats, I will say. Afrobeats artists, we have done our best to promote peace among ourselves. Yeah, we got our egos. Yeah, we got our achievements. You know, everybody got their own money and paychecks. But, one thing I have noticed is that our unity has kept us going for a very long time.

“Even when the fans want to start to spark stuff up. I won’t lie, the fans are the ones starting this stuff [beef]. I feel like it’s the fans.”

When he notices his followers "going mad," according to Rema, he doesn't hesitate to call them to order.

Although he assumed other musicians were enjoying the parallels, he did admit that occasionally he gets frustrated when he doesn't see others acting in a similar manner.
