Nigerian singer and songwriter Davido affirmed that his much-anticipated December show in Nigeria is being threatened to be cancelled due to his controversial comment about the country’s economy.

Recall, Davido made headlines after appearing on the American podcast Big Homies House, where he advised Americans against relocating to Africa, especially Nigeria.

The singer described Nigeria's economy as being in “shambles,” a statement that sparked a flurry of backlash from Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

Famous figures like Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri publicly condemned the comment, accusing Davido of tarnishing Nigeria’s image on a global platform.

Addressing the backlash, Davido defended his position by stressing the role of entertainers as the country’s “real ambassadors.” He took to his X (formally Twitter) handle, writing, “Y'all mad cus we the real ambassadors!”

Amid the ongoing uproar, Davido disclosed another layer of the fallout, alleging threats to cancel his Lagos performance over his interview.
