Laolu Akande, Osinbajo's spokesman, said the vice president would also participate in a roundtable discussion with UPenn students and faculty. The event will be coordinated by Adebanwi—a professor of Africana Studies at the UPenn.

The lecture by the vice president on April 24 will be themed around Climate Change and a Just Transition, and is hosted by the University's Center for Africana Studies.

Prof Osinbajo, a leading voice and strong advocate for a Just Energy Transition for Africa and the developing world, is currently spearheading efforts aimed at creating the African Carbon Market as one of the pathways of a just and sustainable transition.

UPenn which is one of the eight private universities known as the Ivy League in the U.S. was initially established in 1740 as a charity school.

Benjamin Franklin turned the school into an academy in 1751. He was later one of the founding fathers who established America and served as president of its first Board of Trustees at this university.

The Department of African American Studies was founded through the merger of The University of Pennsylvania's Center for the Study Black Literature and Culture and its Afro-American Studies Program.

The centre is hosting the vice President’s Special Lecture in partnership with other faculties of the University such as PennCarey Law, Perry World House, Wharton Business School, Coalition for Equity and Opportunity and Perelman School of Medicine.
Osinbajo is expected back in Abuja after his engagements in Philadelphia.
