The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is in a state of mourning following the sudden death of Professor Jimoh Olanipekun.

The senior professor fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. His colleagues noticed he was breathing abnormally and immediately rushed him to the University Health and Medical Centre.

After a prompt medical examination, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was pronounced dead.

The University's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed these details in a statement. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to the professor's family, expressing shock and disbelief at the sudden loss of such a brilliant scholar.

He encouraged the family to find solace in the positive impact Professor Olanipekun had on those around him. Bamire also offered words of comfort, reminding them that as Christians, they should accept the will of God.

He prayed for the family and the university community to find the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
