According to a statement released by the Detector General of the Media and Communications office of Governor Nuhu Salihu Anka, the Governor visited the World Bank headquarters in Abuja on Thursday to discuss this new development.
During the visit, Governor Lawal appealed for special intervention from the World Bank, highlighting the significant challenges faced by the state. He emphasized the need for support to address issues such as poverty, insecurity, healthcare, education, water supply, and infrastructure.
Governor Lawal acknowledged that Zamfara State is in a disadvantaged position and expressed interest in partnering with the World Bank due to the state's financial constraints. He assured that his administration has already taken steps to reduce unnecessary costs and redundancy.
Furthermore, the Governor requested special consideration from the World Bank for the state's projects, emphasizing the importance of their assistance in improving the lives of Nigerians.
Governor Lawal expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received at the World Bank Abuja Office.
In response, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, the Country Director of the World Bank in Nigeria, reintroduced the Bank's activities to the Governor and expressed willingness to collaborate with the Zamfara state government. He assured Governor Lawal of the World Bank's financial support and other forms of engagement.
Mr. Chaudhuri confirmed that the World Bank will invest in programs aimed at reducing poverty, improving healthcare systems, and developing infrastructure in Zamfara state. Additionally, he mentioned an existing World Bank-assisted project focused on girl child education, which will also receive further enhancements.
