The Federal Government has suspended 13 students from the Federal Government College in Enugu State for six weeks due to allegations of bullying. The suspension follows the emergence of a viral video that depicted students engaging in bullying behaviour.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Education, Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment in all federal schools across Nigeria.

The incident, which raised serious concerns regarding safety and discipline within the school, involved the gang assault of an SS1 student by a group of students on November 7.

The ministry's investigation revealed that the disturbing footage circulated widely on social media, prompting immediate action.

To address this issue, a disciplinary committee has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation. As part of the response, the minister has instructed the School Based Management Committee to work with security agencies to explore any potential connections to external groups.

Additionally, measures are being implemented to enhance security at the college, including engaging law enforcement and reviewing existing safety protocols.

The minister also announced that counselling and rehabilitation support will be provided to help affected students reintegrate into a positive school environment.
