The Federal Executive Council met at the State House in Abuja and was presided over by Vice President Osinbajo. Minister of Education Adamu Adamu revealed this to journalists after the meeting had ended.

Under Buhari's administration, the number of universities approved for establishment grew to 72 by Monday, of which 14 are federal universities and 21 are state-owned universities while 37 remain privately owned.

When asked to identify the newly approved universities, Adamu declined but confirmed that one of them was an online university run by a female vice chancellor from Bauchi State.

When asked about the government’s decision to create more universities, despite concerns over whether public universities can support an increased population of students, Adamu said Nigeria needs colleges and universities so that it can educate its growing youth population.

He said “We need more universities. The existence of the many universities should not deter the creation of new ones. Besides, these are private universities.”

The council also passed a resolution for the universal implementation of the Employee Compensation Act 2010, which provides for compensation to be paid by employers who incur costs due to employees becoming ill or sustaining injuries at work.
