After many unsuccessful deliberations with the government over the course of the week, recipients of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) student loan will finally receive money to pay their school fees.
The management of the funds has guaranteed NUGS that it will pay out money to its recipients throughout the week.
Last month, NUGS bared its teeth at the government, accusing it of causing an excessive delay in the distribution of funding for the scheme which could force out of higher education about seventy thousand students.
The CEO of the loan fund, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah, gave these promises earlier today after the leadership of NUGS, incensed by the management of the fund's extraordinary silence on the petition last month, besieged the loan fund's headquarters.
Secretary of NUGS, Ransford Tege, in an interview, said, “We are happy with the information we got here because we have been assured that from Monday to Friday payment will be made to schools that have submitted their list of registered students. From here, we are going to publish list of the schools that have submitted their list. And if your school falls within that list, then they should expect to be paid their student loan in the course of the week.
He continued, “The difference is that today it's from the horse's own mouth. The CEO himself said they have made some funds available, and what has delayed them is that they were waiting for the schools to update the current list of beneficiaries. Once they have a handful of schools that have updated their lists, they will start paying on Monday. So, they have assured and reassured us that from Monday onwards, schools that have updated their list, should expect to see their fees from the student trust fund, and as a union, we will publish the list.
