The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi has distanced itself from a fraudulent social media account impersonating the university's vice-chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya.

In a press release issued on Monday, the university's Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, stated that the Acting Vice-Chancellor's attention was drawn by a concerned individual to a fake Facebook account created in his name, with the apparent intention of scamming unsuspecting people.

The statement revealed that a screenshot of a transaction with the concerned person exposed a direct attempt to lure them into surrendering a substantial sum of money to facilitate a supposed contract award.

Given this situation, it has become necessary to alert the general public, particularly the university's stakeholders, that the Acting Vice-Chancellor will never engage in any official transaction or demand any financial favor from anyone on social media for any purpose whatsoever.

Zailani emphasized that the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not have a Facebook account and has not instructed anyone to manage any social media account on his behalf.
