According to the analysis of data on the 2022/2023 admission session in Nigerian tertiary institutions, 88 universities, polytechnics, and other institutions conducted admissions outside of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) mandated by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB has stated that admissions conducted outside of CAPS are illegal, null, and void. The board introduced CAPS in 2017 to centralize and automate the admission process between candidates and their chosen institutions.

In 2020, JAMB warned institutions to stop offering admissions through their own portals, describing the practice as a "flagrant abuse of the automated Central Admissions Processing System."

However, the analysis by our correspondence shows that 88 institutions failed to comply with the CAPS guidelines, including the University of Uyo, University of Abuja, Olabisi Onabanjo University, and others.

JAMB has stated that it will no longer condone illegal admissions conducted outside of CAPS and has urged candidates to desist from accepting such admissions.

The board has also noted that it will score institutions based on their compliance with admission guidelines, awarding 10 points for full compliance, 5 points for partial compliance, and 0 points for non-compliance.
