This was announced in an official statement released on the Lagos State Government's website on Thursday, November 2.

During a recent high-level policy dialogue organized by the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency in collaboration with U.N. Women at the Protea Hotel in Ikeja, the governor's message was conveyed by the state Commissioner for Finance, Abayomi Oluyomi.

Sanwo-Olu explained the event's theme, "Advancing Affirmative Procurement for Women-owned/Women-led Businesses in Lagos State," which aligns with his administration's broader goals of empowering women, fostering socio-economic emancipation, promoting gender equality, and ensuring social inclusion which are integral components of the T.H.E.M.E. Plus Agenda.

In addition to this, Sanwo-Olu noted the impact of supporting women entrepreneurs, stressing that such support not only leads to environmentally sustainable business practices but also contributes to a more resilient and ethically sound business environment. Women, he noted, are recognized as key drivers of sustainable practices and social responsibility.

Olabode Agoro, the Lagos State Head of Service, further explained the necessity for women-led businesses, not only within Lagos State but across Nigeria, to benefit substantially from public procurement opportunities.

Represented by Mrs. Bose George, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Sustainable Development Goals in the State, he expressed optimism that the policy dialogue would pave the way for enhanced economic empowerment of women-owned businesses. It is expected to facilitate increased access to various public procurement opportunities in the State, marking a positive step toward gender inclusivity and empowerment.
