He emphasized the need to identify and eliminate obstacles that hinder investments and hinder economic growth. Tinubu also highlighted that the ongoing economic reforms will be tailored to benefit Nigerian youths, aiming to create opportunities and remove bottlenecks in the economy.
In a statement issued by the President's Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, it was revealed that the government is determined to remove barriers to investments and reposition the economy to empower the country's youth population.
The President assured the manufacturing and service sectors that further reforms would be introduced to enhance efficiency and attract more investments. The economic "revolution" currently underway is specifically designed to engage and benefit the large youth demographic in Nigeria.
President Tinubu's remarks came shortly after signing four Executive Orders, including the suspension of the five percent excise tax on telecommunication services and the escalation of excise duties on locally-manufactured items.
Additionally, he approved the establishment of a Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform, appointing Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, as the committee's chairman.
During the meeting with the MTN delegation, President Tinubu reiterated the government's responsibility to transform the economy to ensure that the nation's youth can actively participate in its prosperity. The aim is to create an environment where dreams can be realized and the potential of the youth can be fully harnessed for the development and progress of the country.
“If you have any problems or impediments, do let us know. We are ready to remove bottlenecks to investments in the economy,” he noted while acknowledging the sweeping changes worldwide, primarily driven by technology.
President Tinubu reasoned that the growing rural-urban migration could only be controlled with more investments in digital technology that would directly improve healthcare systems and education for the poor.
