Through its mass tree planting campaign, the foundation distributed 20,000 tree seedlings which include Mahogany, black plum, Shea butter, olive tree and economic trees to the residents free of charge.

The Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, Iliya Kwache emphasized that the regular tree planting exercise was aimed at tackling desert encroachment and protecting the environment from the impacts of climate change in the area and encouraged survivors of the insurgency to actively participate in planting the seedlings.

Kwache also called on the government to create a conducive atmosphere for citizens returning to their homelands after being displaced by the insurgency.

As part of a broader solution, he proposed the establishment of a Ministry for Tree Planting and the declaration of a "National Tree Planting Day" annually by the Federal Government of Nigeria. This initiative would help address climate change and global warming, as trees play a vital role in storing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.

During the tree planting exercise, various stakeholders pledged their support for the foundation's campaign to protect the environment and combat illegal tree logging.

The District Head of Michika, Ngida Zakawa, promised the backing of traditional institutions in combating indiscriminate tree cutting. He mentioned that vigilantes would be deployed to help enforce the state governor's directive that outlawed cutting trees for charcoal fuel.

“We have been telling our people that whoever is caught cutting down trees will face the music as directed by the governor. We are ready to direct vigilantes to enforce the governor’s directive,” Zakawa stated.

Lama Luka another beneficiary of the tree seedlings distributed during the mass tree-planting campaign praised the effort of the environmentalist. He said the mass tree planting exercise will help to restore the lost glory of the environment and curb fast encroaching desertification.
