Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has said the government expects the International Monetary Fund (IMF) board approval of the deal it seeking with the Fund by May this year.
On Thursday, April 13, he stated to the investors in Washington, D.C., outside of the ongoing IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings, "We do at this moment expect an IMF board approval in May and contemplate a speedy discussion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with our debtors. On every front, we have achieved great progress.
He also gave the investors the assurance that the administration had made a number of efforts to address the nation's financial issues.
He disclosed to the investors that the nation is undertaking debt restructuring as part of efforts to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
"Ghana has done a number of things, first and foremost with regards to the Paris Club, we did travel to China, we organized support from India and the Saudis, and we really maintained open relations with the Club," he stated.
“We did get to the Club to let them know that we were worried about the track record of the common framework. We have had a good relationship, and we really commend the Paris Club for the sense of urgency that they have. We are confident that they will be able to bring the assurances to the Bank in the coming week.”
Additionally, he stated that the government wants to strengthen its relationship with its foreign creditors.
“We reaffirm our commitment to work with our private and commercial creditors in all of our engagements,” he stressed.
