The Coca-Cola System in Nigeria has made an announcement on the modification of the bottles for its products in an effort to address the environmental effects of plastic bottle waste pollution.
This information was revealed at the Annual System Beach Cleanup activity in Lagos by Nwamaka Onyemelukwe, Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola Nigeria, the company said in a statement.
When plastic bottles aren't properly disposed off for recycling, they represent a threat to the environment, she claimed, which is why the bottles for the items were changed.
"We took action," Onyemelukwe stated, referring to the thick Coca-Cola bottle container that was being utilized for various purposes. Light plastic is being introduced.
“It is simply because we want to use light plastic so that after you use it, you can just shrink it with your hands. It takes less space and you give in for recycling.”
“Most times people say Coca-cola is the highest polluter because people are choosing our beverages,” she noted.
